Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma in English literature. Mitchell began her career as a radio and TV reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. 1976 Mitchell joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). A few years later, she was a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office in 1988. Mitchell was appointed the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was a panelist in 1988's presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors for her journalism achievements, such as the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was the first journalist to cover White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president between 1981 and 1988. She covered a wide range of interesting stories such as arm control, budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal. She also went on numerous trips together with the president Reagan for summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
